International Research Group for Critical Theory (suspended)
At the Institut für Sozialforsgung - Since 2003

The Internationale Arbeitskreis für Kritische Theorie (International Research Group for Critical Theory) is an open forum for young scientists from diverse disciplines with a joint interest in Critical Theory. It specifically invites visiting scientists of the Institut für Sozialforschung and the Goethe-University Frankfurt.
At the moment, the research group focuses on two interrelated themes: First, it tries to clarify with which theoretical means – and if at all – Critical Theory is able to satisfy its own claim to actuality. Therefore, the second question is how it can combine epistemological, political and social considerations in a theoretically coherent manner.
The discussion in the winter term of 2010/11 started with texts from the first generation of the Frankfurt School that aimed precisely at the relation between epistemology and political theory (program). This discussion will be continued in the summer term 2011.
