Vergesellschaftung unter Bedingungen von Migration

Highly qualified second-generation women are regarded as »models of successful integration«, yet must continually prove their social belonging. The doctoral project examines the mediation work that arises from this paradoxical position, extending the theory of double socialisation through a perspective from the sociology of migration. Drawing on biographical-narrative interviews and Reflexive Grounded Theory, it reconstructs the mediation work these women develop in critical phases of life – for instance between demands of belonging, professional expectations and familial loyalties – and how gender, class and structural racialisation intersect within it. The aim is to conceive migration and racialisation as a cross-cutting dimension that qualitatively transforms the classical mediation work between the spheres of production and reproduction, thereby advancing feminist socialisation theory.
