In "Aspekte des neuen Rechtsradikalismus" (2019), Theodor W. Adorno suggests that culture industry is the new "organization": it can replace a mass party in building fascism (and I argue, neofascim). My current project, "The New Organization: Digital Culture Industry, Social Networks, and Right-Wing Propaganda in Brazil," reframes Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer's concept of culture industry and the Frankfurt School's studies of propaganda (as well as its contemporary successors) to analyze how the digital apparatus of social media impacts democracies in the Global South, with a particular focus on the recent Brazilian experiment. I also propose that social media can be comprehended as the form that culture industry assumes in digital platform capitalism The main idea is to investigate the relations between digital culture industry and the far-right propaganda it conveys, on the one hand, and the rise of authoritarianism in the country on the other.
