Biography

Jan Lucas Geilen studied Sociology at the Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg and Political Science at the Philipps-University Marburg. Between 2017 and 2018, he worked as a student assistant of the research project »Aktuelle europäische Binnen- und Flüchtlingsmigration nach Deutschland: Zuzugsprozesse und frühe Integrationsverläufe«. From 2020 to 2021, he led a seminar at the Institute for Political Science, Political Theory, and History of Ideas in Marburg. Since November 2023, he has been a doctoral candidate at the doctoral program »Dialektik der Teilhabe«. His research interest focuses on land, examining it from the perspective of political economy, its social, ecological, and regional characteristics, as well as (legal) transformation possibilities. In his dissertation, he examines the decommodification and socialisation of urban land on the basis of existing practices of municipalities, cities and civil society organisations in Germany.
