Escaping Freedom. The Path of Young Men into Jihadism

The project asks why young men from German-speaking countries become jihadists. For this purpose, we examine how the actors submit to the imperatives of the violent ideology and to the expectations of the subcultural collective. These processes are reconstructed using case studies and contextualized by analyzing documents from the subculture. It turns out that the conditions of these careers lie in the life worlds of the actors and the social dynamics of the subculture.
