Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee reviews scientific projects based at the IfS from the perspective of research ethics. A two-stage process forms the basis for this:

Stage 1: The principal investigators of all empirical research projects based at the IfS must complete the questionnaire for the self-assessment of research projects (see below) well in advance of conducting the research. The responses to these questions determine whether a detailed review of research ethics (= Stage 2) is necessary.

Stage 2: The Committee’s detailed review of research projects is based on the completed questionnaire and the mandatory application. Following its review of the project, the Committee issues a corresponding opinion.

The Commission generally meets every two months in the middle of the month. Applications to the Commission under Level 2 must be submitted, complete and in a PDF file, to the Commission’s email address no later than two weeks before the respective meeting, i.e., on the first day of every even-numbered month.

If you have any questions regarding research ethics or the procedure, you may contact the Commission at any time.
